I love people and understanding what motivates them in the workplace. What makes them tick. Figuring out how to match the right people with the right client opportunities. I love being a matchmaker. I've been in-tune with people all my life. I want everyone to be happy with a placement.
My career has been an interesting one. I've had my share of ups and downs. I've worked for great companies, and I've worked for companies that haven't been the best fit. I've been fired more than once and downsized twice, but who's counting. It feels awful. It happened because my vision was not in alignment with the cultures I happened to be working in. This happens far too often in the workplace and costs employers a tremendous amount of money. I decided that I could help clients improve hiring success by focussing on culture as well as backgrounds and skills.
In the middle of my career I took a break to have my daughters, then six years later I transitioned back into the workplace. Throughout my journey, my greatest sense of enjoyment and satisfaction has been in the search industry. I worked for some great search companies but often went home feeling a nagging conundrum. Amidst my highs when my professional "matchmaking" skills led to marriage and happily ever after, I realized that often, I was totally stressed with an undeniable sense of guilt. Facing the pressure of making the placement without being able to take the time to find the right person felt insincere. My clients deserved better. I knew what I had to do. I took the leap and went into business for myself, to best serve my clients in the most positive way I knew - putting their needs first by focussing on their culture.
I believe, from years of working with clients in the small to midsize business and nonprofit space, that culture drives success. Yes, talent and skills are absolutely important, but so is the person's desire to add value to a team; their drive and ambition, their outlook on life, and their personality style. The latter is what makes the team thrive. The synergy from a diverse culture of talented and dedicated people, working towards the same value-driven mission of their organization, drives the success of the organization. The desire to lead in their role (and this is true with each and every position from receptionist and administrative all the way to upper management and leadership) is what drives the success of the organization. Everyone needs to be on the same page with the same positive "can-do" attitude.
